Beaumont Primary School has a long and rich history. Opened in 1968, on the site of the old Reedham Orphanage, Beaumont Primary School has built quite the reputation over the years. The late Rev. Dr. Andrew Reed, who had the Reedham Orphanage specially built to care for the boys and girls whose fathers had died and therefore the children were orphaned. The building was opened in 1858. Reedham finally closed its doors in 1979. By then, Beaumont Primary School had been built to take over the teaching and all children could be cared for in their own homes. Our school was in fact named Beaumont School because of where Andrew Reed was born at Beaumont House, Butcher Row, Temple Bar on 27th November 1787.
Since 1968, the school has gone through many changes. Moving from vertical teaching, where there were only twenty children in reception, to finally expanding to a full one form primary school, a £10,000,000 building project which took place in 2011 to form what is now called our Upper School (Years 4, 5 & 6) to then being awarded ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted in December 2017. We have continued to build momentum ever since. In 2018, which also marked the school’s fiftieth birthday, Beaumont Primary was awarded by Croydon Council as ‘Primary School of the Year’ and the following year received a letter from the Minister of State for School Standards stating that the school was in the top 3% of schools in England for progress between Key Stage 1 and the end of Key Stage 2. In 2021 and 2022, Beaumont Primary was recognised as the hardest ‘primary school’ to get into due to its area of intake in England!
Consistent throughout all these changes are our sense of community and the lifelong friendships formed at school. The Beaumont Primary School Alumni is here to celebrate the school’s history and is your chance to reconnect and stay connected with our community. This is for all former pupils, parents and staff to share memories, reconnect with each other and the school and to share experiences and knowledge with current Beaumont pupils.
Our school today works closely with the Reedham Trust and as part of our local history, Reedham and its history plays a key part in our pupils’ educational curriculum.
We would love to know what our past pupils, their families and staff are doing now and we follow with interest their experiences and achievements in life. Whether you’ve got into university, got married or welcomed your first child, please do send us your news - we would love to hear from you!
