Remembrance Day 2024

Today marks the signing of the First World War-ending Armistice on 11th November in 1918.

It has been observed every year since 1919 with a two-minute silence. Held each year at 11am on 11th November, the silence coincides with the time in 1918 at which the First World War came to an end and is observed at war memorials and in public places throughout the UK and Commonwealth.

The children learnt about the importance of the ‘poppy’ and many proudly wore them today. They all understand how wearing a poppy shows support for the service and sacrifice of our Armed Forces, veterans and their families.

Mr Holland our music teacher - played the Last Post and Reveille.

‘In Flanders Fields’ a poem written by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae in 1915, inspired the use of the poppy as a symbol of Remembrance. It has been used for over 100 years.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
